A hymn for the Bishop of Portsmouth’s Lord’s Prayer Deanery Tour

Tune: Song 34 (NEH 235 – Forth in thy name)

Father of Jesus hear us all;
We lift our earth-bound eyes to you.
To heavenly life our hearts recall;
Our faithful Father, fond and true.

Holy, surpassing every name,
The only God, above all stain;
In prophet, priest and Son you came:
Incomprehensible remain.

Reign as our God, rule as our King,
In all the world your justice bring;
So wars shall cease, the poor shall feast,
Joy come to greatest and to least.

Earth yield to heaven, God’s will be done
In each of us as in the Son.
Dying to self with Christ we rise,
Drawing all heaven beneath the skies.

Yet, in our human need, we pray
Your hungry people shall be fed,
And holy food our Lord convey:
Give us this day our daily bread.

Daily we sin, O daily pour
Your cleansing grace for us to live.
Though human good was yours before,
Imitate us as we forgive.

Keep us from evil’s tempting look,
The pleasing powers which lie in wait,
Lest we take in the deadly hook
All for the greedy, gleaming bait.

Now in the Son the Kingdom come,
And in the Spirit power see,
And in the Father glory be,
One God through all eternity.
