Gift Aid - how it helps the Church
Gift Aid was introduced by the Government in April 2000 as part of Chancellor Gordon Brown's effort to encourage people to give to charities under the title "Getting Giving Going".
The scheme is very simple, and can cover both regular and one off donations.
It is of great benefit to the Church as, at present tax rates, for every £10 given, we can recover tax of £2.82. Whilst much of the Church's giving is through regular donations the Gift Aid scheme enables parishes to recover tax on one off donations. The donor simply has to put their donation in a special envelope supplied by the parish, write their name and address on the envelope, and leave the rest to the treasurer.
