Parish Data

Data from 2001 Census is available for all parishes and we have mapped this in an easy to use graphical format. The link below displays a map of the diocese with some options.

You will need to download and install an additional component to make this work in Internet Explorer, which is the SVG plug-in from Adobe. This can be downloaded from the Adobe website here. In January 2008, this is being discontinued and the technology will be upgraded to use the Flash plug-in also owned by Adobe and details will be posted when they are available.

  1. A parish can be selected either by clicking on the parish in the map or by selecting from the list on the left.
  2. It is possible to zoom in on an area in the map more closely with the tools on the right hand side.
  3. It is possible to display an Ordnance Survey map in the background by clicking the background mapping button on and zooming in on an area. This takes an extra few moments to load and be viewed.
  4. The location of Anglican Churches in the diocese can be displayed by clicking the Churches button on.
  5. At present, there are no files attached to this information for downloading.

61 different pieces of information is available for each parish by clicking on the Data button on the left hand side. The data available includes:

Parish Population: including the age structure for 10 individual age bands. Bear in mind that you now need to add to these age bands the number of years since 2001 when the census was taken to get current ages.

Religion split into 9 different categories

Ethnicity in 4 categories

Employment in 9 categories

Living Arragements in 8 categories

Car Ownership in 6 categories

Household Tenure in 14 categories

Parish Deprivation Score - this is not a national score but a local one more useful for comparison between parishes than for external use.

This information (apart from Deprivation) is from the 2001 Census. Census output is Crown Copyright and is reproduced with the permission of the Controller of HMSA and The Queen's Printer for Scotland. Source: Census 2001 Key Statistics for Output Areas.
