Coronavirus: funerals ministry

During the national lockdown, between November 5 and December 2, funerals can still take place in church, but with a maximum of 30 people present. The government suggests that only close friends and family attend. Linked ceremonial events such as stone settings and ash scatterings can also continue with up to 15 people in attendance. Anyone working is not included. Social distancing should be maintained between people who do not live together or share a support bubble.

For details, see the government website here.

The national Church of England has also put together some resources to help those who are mourning the loss of loved ones, but are sadly unable to be present at the funeral. There is a simple reflection that can be downloaded and used by family members or friends, or can be emailed to them in advance by the minister leading the funeral. You can find other resources here, including simple orders of service for funerals and the chance to light a virtual candle in memory of someone you love who has died.
