The Mission to Seafarers (MtS) is seeking applications for the role of Chaplaincy Worker. Chaplaincy Workers offer spiritual, emotional and practical support to seafarers of all backgrounds and nationalities and this new role offers an exciting opportunity to be part of MtS’s important and growing work at the port of Southampton.

The Chaplaincy Worker will work in partnership with the Port Chaplain to ensure that MtS’s mission is accessible and that our service provision is appropriate. A key priority for this role is better supporting female seafarers, including those aboard cruise ships, and so we particularly welcome applications from suitably qualified women and candidates who have a practical  understanding of, and empathy with, the particular challenges this seafaring population experiences.

Candidates should also possess strong and adaptable interpersonal skills; be collaborative and inclusive and able to work as part of an ecumenical team; be empathetic, supportive and understanding with good self-awareness; demonstrate sound judgement, emotional intelligence and sensitivity; be culturally and politically aware; and able to remain calm and measured in challenging situations.

This is a part-time post, open to ordained and non-ordained candidates. MtS is an Anglican Mission, but this post is open to Christians of all denominations who possess a strong Christian faith and who have empathy with MtS’s Anglican roots and with the work and charitable purpose of our work.
