Vicar of CoGS
The Church of the Good Shepherd, Crookhorn, known as CoGS, is a friendly, evangelical and charismatic church in the Portsmouth Diocese, with a modern style of worship and a desire to reach out into our community.
Our vision is to welcome everyone, serve our community’s needs, while sharing the good news of Jesus and to develop a culture of discipleship, with prayer underlying and supporting everything.
We have a modern multi-purpose building in good repair.
Crookhorn is a small suburban area, split between an estate, which is largely social housing with significant deprivation, and a more affluent estate on the other side of the parish. The benefice includes a small shopping precinct, educational establishments and a busy doctor’s surgery.
Our worship is focussed on the Sunday morning service, with housegroups meeting during the week as we believe they play a key part in the life of the church. We run many activities during the week, which are aimed at serving the community and demonstrating God’s love to all.
We are part of a cluster of three local churches – COGS, Christ Church, Portsdown and St John’s, Purbrook – which work together to provide different styles of worship to the area. Our new vicar will be expected to play a part in shaping the development of ministry across the cluster.
Who we’re looking for
We are looking for a dynamic new vicar to build on the foundations of their predecessors and lead us on into growth, both spiritually and numerically.
The patrons for COGS are the Simeon’s Trustees and Hyndman’s Trustees, who are leading and long-standing Church of England patronage trusts, with patronage interests in nearly 200 parishes in over 40 dioceses.
