Masonry, music and mortar

- Friday 12th September
- 7:30pm
- St Cuthbert’s Church, Copnor
There aren’t many people who have met Eric Clapton and helped build a cathedral – but St Cuthbert’s very own Richard Martin can claim that!
As a brickie, Richard worked on many iconic buildings across Portsmouth and the south of England, managing the project that saw the construction of the west end of Portsmouth cathedral in the late 1980s/early 90s.
But Richard’s real passion is music and he has played guitar all his life, in semi-pro bands that have supported The Hollies, The Searchers and Amen Corner. His talent as a guitarist has also brought him in contact with guitar greats including Eric Clapton and Gordon Giltrap!
‘Masonry, Music and Mortar’ will see Richard recount his experiences with a trowel and a guitar, performing a selection of his favourite hits from the 1960s onwards and also reminiscing about the remarkable teamwork involved in the completion of the nave of Portsmouth Cathedral.
It promises to be a lively and interesting evening of anecdotes and entertainment, all in the fabulous surroundings of St Cuthbert's Church - and you may even learn a thing or two about how to build a wall! Tickets (just £5) on sale at the church (PO3 6DE) or here.
