This time we are tackling the weighty subject of the Atonement, hoping to cast some light on ongoing debates around just what the Cross is all about.Take a long lunch and enjoy a quick survey of the lie of the land, covering recent themes and controversies in atonement theology.

Not bound to academic tomes, we will also explore creative responses to the Cross in recent art and literature. We will reflect on the meaning of atonement in the light of our current national and global contexts, including what we can learn from trauma informed theologies.

With time for discussion and reflection as well as teaching, you should expect to leave informed, refreshed and equipped to reflect on what atonement might mean for us today: in discipleship, in mission, in pastoral care, in our local churches and communities.

Beth Dodd is tutor in Christian doctrine at Sarum College, where she teaches contemporary theologies. She has written on the theology of the Holy Spirit and is writing a book on Logos theology for the Grove doctrine series, where she is on the editorial board.
