Safeguarding and Well-being

All diocesan schools regardless of their status (VC, VA, Academy) come under the statutory oversight of their host local authority (LA). LAs maintain statutory responsibility for ensuring the protection of the children within their area.

All schools and academies have to appoint a designated safeguarding lead officer who has to undergo updated child protection training every 2 years.

All schools and academies have to implement Safer Recruitment procedures as set out in the latest guidance. (DfE: Keeping Children Safe in Education, September 2023)

Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023 - What You Need to Know

All schools and academies maintain a Single Central Record of staff, volunteers, governors and trustees (for academies).

The Stirling Children’s Wellbeing Scale (SCWBS) was initiated by the Stirling Educational Psychology Service with the objective of creating a holistic, positively worded scale measuring emotional and psychological wellbeing in children aged 8 to 15 years. This scale should provide a useful tool for education professionals to assess any changes in wellbeing from a mental wellbeing perspective.
