    The three parishes of Whippingham, East Cowes and Wootton have come together to revitalise their mission and are fully committed to meeting the challenges presented by bringing this new plurality into dynamic growth. A period of consolidation and thoughtful reflection and prayer could be useful.There is a keen desire to continue the successful existing church-based and outreach projects; and to also spearhead new avenues of mission and evangelism, particularly amongst younger people and families

    As the Vicar you would have responsibility for providing spiritual leadership and direction.

    The ideal candidate

    You will:

    • lead and inspire others in a practical expression of the Gospel message, whilst modelling a balance of active and contemplative spirituality;
    • spearhead new initiatives and partnerships, whilst valuing and caring for the existing people and mission;
    • sensitively lead us and nurture the gifts of others;
    • respect our moderate Anglican theological and liturgical tradition and encourage those involved in its provision;
    • have strong administrative and organisational skills, whilst seeking to delegate to others as appropriate.

    You’ll be able to work and live in a beautiful area in the central north of the Isle of Wight with huge historic interest and wonderful places such as Osborne House on your doorstep. The mainland is only a 10-minute hovercraft ride away from nearby Ryde and the ferry port is even closer with significant discounts on crossings alongside a Diocesan grant

    The Diocese of Portsmouth is committed to creating and sustaining a diverse and inclusive workforce that represents our context and wider community. We are aware that those of United Kingdom Minority Ethnic/Global Majority Heritage, women, and disabled people are currently under-represented among our clergy, and we particularly encourage applications from those with the relevant skills and experience that will increase this representation. The appointment will of course be based on merit alone. Enhanced DBS will be required.

    For further information on the role, please contact Archdeacon Steve Daughtery.

    • Closing date for applications: Midday, July 8th 2024
    • Interviews: July 24th 2024
