Licensed Lay Ministers
Licensed Lay Ministers, also known as Readers, are lay people, called by God, trained and licensed by the Church, to preach, teach, lead worship and assist in pastoral, evangelistic and liturgical work.
There are around 150 Licensed Lay Ministers in our diocese working with clergy and churchgoers in communities across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to take Christ’s love out to those who do not yet know him. Only by working together can we hope to see God’s kingdom realised.

Three new Licensed Lay Ministers licensed this year
This year, three new Licensed Lay Ministers will be licensed:
- Sue Craft (to serve at Holy Trinity with St Columba, Fareham)
- Sam Piggot (to serve at St Cuthbert’s, Copner)
- Carolyn Shannon (to serve at Leigh Park and Warren Park)
The Licensed Lay Ministers picture above, with Bishop Geoff Annas, were licensed in our cathedral in June 2024.
