Portsmouth faith leaders condemn terror attacks
PORTSMOUTH'S faith leaders have issued a statement condemning the recent attacks on the Jewish community.
They are the leaders of the newly-formed Interfaith Alliance, which brings together Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Sikh and Hindu leaders from around the city.
The group's convenor is the Ven Bob White, Archdeacon of Portsdown and vicar of St Mary's Church, Portsea.
On behalf of the whole group, he has said: "The Chief Rabbi has called on the ‘silent voices’ of the majority in our country to speak out and condemn the attacks on the Jewish community and rising anti-semitism.
"As leaders of the newly formed Interfaith Alliance in our city – which represents a variety of faith communities: Christian; Muslim; Jewish; Sikh and Hindu – we wish to add our voices and encourage others in our city to do the same.
"We are shocked and saddened at recent events affecting Jewish communities in our country. As individuals and on behalf of our faith communities in the city we strongly condemn any and every act of hatred or violence against any section of our community.
"We believe that at this time it is more important than ever to stand together in unity, compassion, and mutual respect. Our Jewish brothers and sisters in our city are in our thoughts and prayers and we stand with them,
"As an Interfaith Alliance we are one community and we will always seek to support one another and stand against hatred in all its forms. An attack on one is an attack on all of us."
