  • Equipped for a new role as ‘the Reverend’

    Tom Cooper’s call to ordained ministry came fairly quickly after his conversion to Christianity. He has been a Reader for seven years and will now become ‘the Reverend’ at an ordination service in our cathedral on June 29. Read more

  • City children will sing as part of D-Day 80 event

    A specially-formed children’s choir will sing in front of HM the King and a national audience as part of the events marking 80 years since D-Day. They’ll be on Southsea Common as part of the D-Day 80 national commemoration on June 5. Among them will be Luca Shaw, who will also read a description of what life was like for one teenage boy in the run-up to D-Day. Read more

  • Headteacher commissioned for new role

    The new headteacher at St George’s C of E Primary School in Portsea has been commissioned at a service at nearby Harbour Church, based in St George’s Church, Portsea. Izzy Lewis has been a deputy head at another C of E school in Portsmouth: St Jude’s C of E Primary. Read more

  • Churchwarden marks 40 years of service

    Churchwarden Peter Lambert has marked 40 years as churchwarden at St John the Baptist Church in Northwood. He was presented with a cake and gifts after a Sunday service. Read more

  • Two girls baptised at Messy Church service

    Two girls, Nina and Bethany, were baptised during Messy Church at St John’s Church, Ryde. They have been regulars there for the past two years, so the Rev David Morgan performed the baptism in the worship setting with which they are most familiar. Read more

  • New priest appointed for Titchfield

    Bishop Jonathan has appointed the Rev Penny Thatcher to be the new associate priest in Titchfield. She’s currently a curate in Chandlers Ford, and will arrive with some expertise in the area of caring for older people. Join her for her licensing service on June 6. Read more

  • Celebrating 30 years of women priests

    Our cathedral hosted a service to mark 30 years since the ordination of the first women priests in our diocese. It was a service led almost exclusively by women, including some from the 1994 cohort who were ordained in our diocese and elsewhere. And the Rev Ruth Jagger, who wasn’t able to stay until the end of the service in 1994, was this time helping to lead the Eucharist. Read more

  • Army chaplain to take on parish role

    Bishop Jonathan has appointed the Rev Dave Crees to be priest-in-charge of St Paul’s Church, Sarisbury Green. He has been an Army chaplain for the past 20 years. He hopes to be licensed in November. Read more
