THIS is your chance to have your say about what kind of Bishop of Portsmouth we would like to be appointed.

The people responsible for advising the prime minister and Archbishops of York amd Canterbury about our new bishop want to hear from you this month.

Caroline Boddington, the archbishop’s appointments secretary, and Paul Britton, the prime minister’s appointments secretary will visit our diocese from June 17-19. They’ll hold various formal consultations.

You are invited to two public meetings – at Portsmouth Cathedral at 7.30pm on June 18, and at St John’s church hall, High Park Road, Ryde, at 12.45pm on June 19.

A new bishop is likely to be appointed by the end of this year and will start work next year. Bishop Kenneth has announced he will retire in September after 14 years in the job.

Our diocese’s ‘vacancy-in-see’ committee will also help to advise the prime minister and archbishops about the appointment. It is chaired by the Archdeacon of the Meon, the Ven Peter Hancock.

Anyone with any comments who can’t get to the meetings can contact Peter on 01329-280101 or admeon@portsmouth.anglican.org.
